Dear AVCC Members,
With much gratitude I write to you on behalf of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Another successful mixer, special thanks to Golden Road Brewing for not only hosting but sponsoring the “Spring into Opportunity” mixer. We are very grateful for their hospitality. We also had a great turn out… many new and familiar faces; including 3 campaign hopefuls for CD13, representatives from the Los Feliz BID, the Glendale Chamber of Commerce and the East Hollywood Chamber. As always thanks go to my fellow Directors for their ongoing support. The mixer was great fun and a heartfelt thanks to all who attended.
Looking ahead the Chamber is currently in talks about creating a “Mega-Mixer” with the Los Feliz BID, the Silver Lake Chamber and the East Hollywood Chamber. A very exciting prospect indeed! As we move forward with the “Mega-Mixer”, as well our regular mixers, the Chamber shall continue to focus on supporting both the business community and residents alike. In order to keep these mixers engaging and fresh we are committed to moving the mixers to different areas to showcase all of Atwater Village. Please do your part by attending and inviting your fellow business owners to future events.
Moving on to another topic…the Chamber is now accepting nominations for the 2nd Annual “Villager of the Year” Award. This award was created to recognise noteworthy “villagers” whose action or ongoing actions serve to preserve the uniqueness of our village or has improved those areas that need improvement. Do you know a resident or business owner that has benefited the community? The only requirement for nomination is that nominees must have benefited Atwater Village in some capacity. Please submit nominations to board@atwaterchamber.org by July 15th. Provide nominee’s full name and/or business and a paragraph description (no more than 100 words) of why you believe they should be named the “Villager of the Year”. For more information about this award please contact Luis Lopez at 323.665.0166 or luis@lopezautomotive.com
The Villager of the Year/Business Mixer will be held in August (date TBD) at home of our own Vice President, Alex Ventura. Alex will be firing up his handcrafted Ventura & Son Masonry wood burning oven, and creating the most delectable pizzas. Yummy.
Are you interested in hosting an Atwater Village Chamber event or mixer? We are currently seeking locations for the Pre-Holiday Mixer in November and our Board of Directors Election in February. Please contact me hypnotiqsolutions@gmail.com if interested.
Now on to community event news….the 2nd Annual Atwater Village Artwalk is happening June 12th – 5pm. Last year the event brought over a thousand people to Glendale Boulevard which also brought revenue to local businesses. The Artwalk has doubled in size this year from 5 participating businesses to 10. Please share this community event with your friends and social networks. Currently, the Artwalk is accepting artwork submissions. Artwork submissions are due by June 6 at 5pm and can be submitted at atwaterartwalk.com. If you have any questions please contact Nick Warnes at nick@northlandvillagechurch.com.
What is happening with Summer Nights on the Boulevard? I have been corresponding with the new Co-Chair at the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council, Bruce Fleenor, regarding this event. Due to shifts and changes, Summer Nights on the Boulevard (traditionally a AVNC event) will only continue if businesses on Glendale Blvd take an active role and voice their desires to participate. The event previously took place the last Thursday in the months of June, July and August. Last year LA weekly’s Rachael Narins blogged: “you haven’t been to one of these exceptionally well-organized evenings, go. It’s like a trip to idyllic small town America, but with better food and more tattoos”. Bruce and I both would like to keep this tradition going. Please contact me or Bruce at bruce@atwatervillage.org if your business in interested in participating.
With thanks, I close this correspondence. Looking forward to seeing you at the next mixer or community event.
Warm Regard,
Thea Pueschel, C.Ht.
